Product Specifications:
This HSSE M42 spiral flute tap is manufactured from high-speed steel with 8% cobalt content, providing exceptional red hardness and wear resistance at elevated temperatures. Compared to standard HSSE (5% Co), M42 maintains its cutting edge even in high-speed applications and difficult-to-machine materials where heat buildup is significant. The 15° spiral angle ensures reliable chip evacuation in blind holes, while the 3‑flute design balances strength and chip space.
The M10x1.25 size features a total length of 83mm and working length of 18mm, optimized for medium-depth blind holes in heat-resistant alloys, stainless steel (e.g., 316, 17-4 PH), titanium alloys, and hardened steels up to 35 HRC. Although supplied uncoated, the M42 substrate itself offers superior performance; however, TiAlN coating can be added to further enhance heat resistance for dry or high-speed machining.
Typical applications include aerospace components (turbine casings, landing gear parts), medical implants, and automotive exhaust systems where high-temperature strength is critical. Custom options include left‑hand flutes, reduced shank diameters, and special thread classes (6HX, 4H). For demanding applications requiring maximum heat resistance, HSSE M42 taps outperform standard HSS by up to 50% in tool life.
HSSE M42 taps for automotive manufacturing offer 8% cobalt for superior heat resistance and tool life. Perfect for engine, transmission, and exhaust components in stainless and heat-resistant alloys.
