This HSS spiral point (gun) tap is engineered for high-speed through-hole threading. The TiN coating (gold) provides low friction and increased wear resistance, making it ideal for production tapping in carbon steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The spiral point geometry directs chips forward through the hole, eliminating chip packing and allowing continuous tapping without retraction – significantly reducing cycle times on CNC machines.
The M8x1.25 tap features an overall length of 80mm and a working length of 22mm, suitable for standard through holes in automotive components, machinery parts, and structural steel. With 3 flutes and a 6H tolerance class, it delivers clean, accurate threads. Unlike straight flute taps, this design should not be used for blind holes because chips are forced forward. For best results, ensure the hole is open on both ends or that chips can fall freely.
