Product Specifications:
This HSS twist drill features a reduced shank – 10mm shank for a 9mm cutting diameter. Why is that useful? It allows you to drill 9mm holes using tool holders designed for 10mm shanks (common in many drill chucks and collet systems). The longer overall length (92mm) compared to a standard jobber drill (typically ~81mm for 9mm) gives you extra reach for deep holes or thick workpieces.
The 118° point and 30° helix are standard geometries that work well in carbon steel, alloy steel, aluminum, and cast iron. With a flute length of 40mm, you can drill through 1.5‑inch plate without needing to reposition. Cutting parameters: 25‑40 m/min speed, 0.10‑0.18 mm/rev feed. Use cutting oil for steel, and increase feed slightly in aluminum.
This reduced‑shank design is especially popular for retrofit applications where you need a specific hole size but want to avoid buying a new collet. The bright finish HSS provides sharp edges out of the box. For stainless steel or harder alloys, consider cobalt HSS or TiN coated versions (available upon request). Custom lengths and diameters are offered for OEM orders. Keep this versatile 9mm drill in your toolbox for everyday metalworking tasks.
